Lizard Vets in Manchester – Comprehensive Care for Your Scaly Companions
At GoVets Manchester, we understand that the term “lizard” covers a vast array of species, each with its own highly specific requirements, from the desert-dwelling Uromastyx to the tropical Chinese Water Dragon. Whether your lizard is an insectivore, herbivore, or omnivore, its health depends on a delicate balance of UV lighting, thermal gradients, and nutrition. Our Manchester team provides the expert veterinary care needed to keep your lizard thriving in a captive environment.

Lizard Services We Offer
Our Manchester clinic features a modern diagnostic suite specifically designed to treat the unique anatomy of various lizard families:
- UV & Thermal Husbandry Audits: Professional review of your vivarium setup to prevent common illnesses caused by incorrect "hot spots" or degraded UV bulbs.
- Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) Treatment: Early intervention and long-term management for calcium deficiencies, including specialised liquid supplements and lighting plans.
- Stomatis (Mouth Rot) Care: Identifying and treating oral infections caused by trauma, poor hygiene, or underlying systemic illness.
- Gravid Care & Dystocia (Egg-Binding): Expert support for female lizards, including X-rays to monitor egg development and surgical intervention if they cannot pass naturally.
- Faecal Screening & Deworming: On-site testing for Flagellates, Pinworms, and Coccidia—parasites that can quickly cause weight loss in lizards.
- Digital Radiography (X-rays): High-definition imaging to detect swallowed substrate (impaction), bladder stones, or bone fractures.
- Abscess & Wound Management: Surgical cleaning and antibiotic treatment for "bite" wounds or infections from sharp cage décor.

FAQs – Lizard Vet Care
This is often the first sign of an impending shed. However, if the skin remains dull or “stuck” (especially around the toes or tail tip), it may indicate a humidity or vitamin issue that needs veterinary attention.
We recommend an annual “Health & Husbandry” check-up. Reptiles are masters of hiding illness; a professional exam can catch subtle problems before they become emergencies.
A secure, ventilated plastic tub or “pet pal” is ideal. It is vital to keep them warm during the journey using a heat pack or a warm water bottle (wrapped in a towel to prevent direct contact burns).
We believe in fair and transparent pricing for our exotic patients. Please contact our Manchester surgery for our current lizard consultation rates.
