Is a pet health plan worth it for dog owners?
A pet health plan is worth it when the routine treatments it covers cost more than the annual plan fee, and when your
dog sees a vet more than once or twice a year. The GoVets Healthcare Plan costs £24 per month for dogs, or £288 a year, plus a £40 joining fee. It covers the yearly booster vaccination, kennel cough vaccination, monthly flea, tick and worming treatment, a free annual health check, a free nurse consultation, free microchipping, free nail clipping and free anal gland expression; treatments that cost around £289 a year individually at GoVets’ standard prices.
Members also get 50% off every vet consultation with no limit on visits, reducing a standard consultation from £52.50 to £26.25, plus 10% off neutering and 10% off in-house blood tests. A dog seen four times a year saves £105 on consultations alone.
A health plan covers routine and preventative care. It is not pet insurance, which covers unexpected illness and injury.
