Digital X-Ray vs Traditional X-Ray
All X-ray imaging at GoVets is fully digital. Here’s why that matters for your pet.
Traditional X-ray uses photographic film and chemical processing to produce an image. It takes longer, uses higher radiation doses, and the images can’t easily be shared or stored.
Digital X-ray captures images instantly using electronic sensors. The result is a sharper, clearer image produced in seconds — with significantly lower radiation exposure for your pet.

How to Prepare Your Pet for an X-Ray
Most X-rays at GoVets require very little preparation, but following these simple steps will help us get the clearest images as quickly as possible.
Fasting
If sedation may be needed, we recommend withholding food for 4–6 hours beforehand. Water is fine to leave down. If you’re unsure whether sedation will be required, give us a call and we’ll advise you.
Keep them calm
Try to limit vigorous exercise on the day of the appointment. A relaxed pet is easier to position and often means a quicker, smoother procedure.
Bring any relevant history
If your pet has had previous X-rays or imaging done elsewhere, bring those records with you. It helps our vets compare and reach a diagnosis faster.
Let us know about any medications Tell us at the start of the appointment about any medication your pet is currently taking, as some can affect how we proceed.

Absolutely. Our equipment is designed to be non-invasive, painless, and safe, with low-dose radiation for X-rays and radiation-free ultrasound.
Sedation is rarely required but may be recommended for particularly anxious pets or those who need to stay perfectly still during imaging.
We provide same-day results and will explain the findings during your visit.
Yes. Ultrasound can confirm pregnancies as early as 3–4 weeks and monitor foetal development throughout.
